Anti-Gun Groups Get Paycheck Protection Cash

From the Second Amendment Foundation

The Second Amendment Foundation today said the recent revelation that the anti-gun-rights Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence took a federal Paycheck Protection Loan worth up to $1 million, while working to keep gun stores closed is an “outrageous exploitation of the COVID-19 pandemic to prevent people from exercising their constitutional rights.”

The Brady group reported received between $350,000 and $1 million on April 10. Likewise, the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence reportedly accepted a loan worth between $150,000 and $350,000 in April, to meet payroll for 16 employees.

“SAF had to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars from contributors to file lawsuits during the coronavirus shutdowns to keep gun stores open as essential businesses so Americans could exercise their Second Amendment rights,” SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb said.

Gottlieb is also chairman of SAF’s sister organization, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, a grassroots political activism organization. That organization also had to raise funds from generous donors to continue its efforts to protect, rather than erode, the rights of American citizens.

“We didn’t take a penny of taxpayer money, nor did we even apply, because that simply would not have been appropriate,” he stated.

“On the other hand,” he added, “the Brady and Gifford groups fought to keep gun stores closed while taking taxpayer funds to stop people from being able to buy firearms and ammunition to protect themselves and their property from violence including rioters, looters and arsonists.”

“More appalling is the fact that, according to their latest tax returns, the Brady and Gifford organizations have several millions of dollars in assets,” Gottlieb noted. “They did not need any taxpayer money to keep their doors open.”

“This is yet another fraud committed by the gun prohibition lobby against the American people,” he said.

Springfield Armory Introduces Ronin Operator 4.25-inch 1911

From Springfield Armory

Springfield Armory is proud to introduce the Ronin Operator 4.25″, a lightweight, rugged and reliable 1911 pistol built for a lifetime of service at an MSRP of just $849.

Available in 9mm and .45 ACP, the Ronin Operator 4.25″ offers shooters an exceptional pistol with the strength and durability they have come to expect from a Springfield Armory firearm. This is accomplished through the use of a forged carbon steel slide, lightweight forged alloy frame and a forged barrel. The result is a pistol that combines thoroughly modern precision manufacturing with a proven approach to quality and performance.

The pistol features a traditional barrel bushing system that matches up with its 4.25″ match grade barrel. The barrel itself is fully supported and ramped, lending additional strength to the design and ensuring consistent and reliable functioning.

“Since its release earlier this year, the full-size Ronin Operator has been extremely popular due to its combination of impressive features and pricing,” says Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory. “The new Ronin Operator 4.25″ adds a lighter, more compact option for those who love carrying the legendary 1911.”

The Ronin Operator 4.25″ sports a beautiful two-tone finish, with the forged alloy frame featuring a satin aluminum Cerakote finish and the forged carbon steel slide a hot salt blued finish. Lightweight and comfortable to carry, it weighs in at 29.5 ounces in the .45 ACP version and 31 ounces in the 9mm variant.

While the Ronin Operator exudes a classic air of tradition in regards to quality and value, its appointments feature everything you would want on a thoroughly modern 1911. The beavertail grip safety with “memory bump” ensures solid engagement, while the fiber optic front/tactical rack rear sight and extended safety lever deliver instant sight picture and intuitive control.

Rounding out the package of the Ronin Operator is a pair of Crossed Cannon™ premium laminate wood grips, stainless steel checkered flat mainspring housing, Springfield Armory 2nd Generation Speed Trigger, forward slide serrations and a basepad-equipped magazine (9+1 capacity in the 9mm model and 8+1 in the .45).

And don’t forget to take a look at the company’s Vickers Tactical Master Class 1911.

Federal Ammunition Introduces New Force X2 Personal Defense Shotgun Loads

Federal Ammunition Introduces New Force X2 Personal Defense Shotgun Loads

From Federal

New Personal Defense ammunition from Federal turns shotguns into the ultimate defensive platform. Force X2 copper-plated 00 FX2 buckshot pellets are specially engineered to split into two equal-size pieces on impact. Shipments of this new product have begun to arrive at dealers.

Force X2 utilizes nine splitting pellets to create up to 18 wound channels which improves the transfer of energy from the payload to the target and minimizes the potential for over-penetration reducing the risk to bystanders. Force X2 is also loaded for more manageable recoil, allowing the shooter to stay on target for faster follow-up shots and better accuracy in a self-defense situation.

The shotshells also recently received an award from NASGW.

“Federal’s splitting buckshot is the first significant change to buckshot ammo in over a century. The expert ammunition engineers at Federal decided it was time for improvements in buckshot that would help in some Personal Defense situations,” said Federal Ammunition Shotshell Product Manager Dan Compton. “This new self-defense shotgun load is designed for tremendous energy transfer for a wider and larger amount of terminal damage.”

Testing by Federal engineers conducted at the Federal Ammunition factory in Anoka, Minnesota showed patterns of 4 ½ inches at 7 yards and 14 inches at 20 yards using an improved cylinder choke. Patterns of 4 ¼ inches at 7 yards and 12 inches at 20 yards were achieved with a modified choke. Tests using 10-percent ballistic gel were also conducted by Federal engineers. The range of penetration depth of the segmented pellets in ballistic gel is 5 ¼ to 14 ½ inches with an average of 9 ½ inches. The average depth when pellets start segmenting is 4.5 inches after impact.

Features

  • 12-gauge 2 ¾-inch nine-pellet segmenting buckshot
  • Nine FX2 copper-plated buckshot pellets designed to split in half on impact
  • Manageable recoil
  • The pattern and power of buckshot
  • Double the wound channels
  • Less collateral damage risk from over-penetration

Situational Awareness Training is Lifesaving

Situational Awareness Training is Lifesaving

When the hair stands up on the back of your neck something is not quite right. It could be visible danger, a subliminal signal that something is amiss or faded memory from previous experience. It’s a powerful, genetically wired self-defense tool. Adults and teachers claiming there’s nothing to fear in the city short that circuit quickly in children, though. Add the alleged infallibility of 911 and urban two-legged predators are more dangerous than anything on four legs. Situational awareness training is lifesaving—with or without a firearm.

It doesn’t take a lot of effort to be aware of your surroundings. It does take practice, however, and quality self-defense instructors provide detailed information on things to look for.

For entertainment you can turn it into a game, of sorts. A friend of mine who was a Marine Sniper during the Vietnam War makes a point of identifying the dominant hand of diners in every restaurant he visits. That might be a little extreme, but you get the point. The Department of Justice published something more applicable a few years ago, and they make great tips on spotting someone who is carrying concealed.

Self-Defense expert Jeff Gonzales appears in the short video below to explain the importance of situational awareness. It’s the fourth video in the series from the fine folks at Brownells.

It’s great info from one of the industry’s foremost. The best criminal encounters are the ones you avoid.

Personal Awareness

I won’t pretend to have Gonzalez’s knowledge, but I have been given some great tips through the years—many of them simple and habit forming. I covered a law enforcement sniper competition a few years back and the team from Baltimore’s Police Department gave me great advice for my long drive that night. They said that whenever entering a gas station in darkness, drive around the pumps at least once before stopping. Make sure the headlights sweep the entire area and look for anyone hiding in the shadows. The extra step also lets criminals watching know you’re awake, situationally aware and not the easy kind of target they prefer. You can see one of the competitors in the sniper competition slogging his rifle through the mud and under the wire above.

Situational awareness training is lifesaving, whether or not a gun is part of your self-defense plan. If you have any simple tips, please share them with readers by posting it as a comment.

And thank you for visiting my modest blog. I hope you have a glorious, healthy and safe day.

Meprolight Suppressor Height Sights

Meprolight Suppressor Height Sights

From Meprolight

At last count, 42 states allow the use of suppressors, sometimes called cans on handguns and rifles. Predictably, NY and NJ are among the eight that do not, but I digress. Depending on the make and model of the suppressor, your sight picture can be affected. Meprolight solved that dilemma with suppressor height Meprolight Tru-Dot Self-Illuminated day/night sights and the R4E for Glock and H&K VP9 owners.

Designed to replace existing front and rear sights, the taller tritium integrated sights allow you to see the target clearly over the suppressor. Meprolight Tru-Dot sight dots are perfect for day light, low-light and night time conditions. The fixed, suppressor height sights are available in orange, yellow or green color combination models.

And if you’re looking for versions more suitable for carry, here’s a look at the Meprolight FT Bullseye sights.

Meprolight is the world-leader in OEM and after-market self- illuminated sights for handguns with models for over 24 manufacturers including Glock, Heckler & Koch, SIG, Smith & Wesson, Springfield Armory, IWI, Ruger and CZ.
