Shooting Looters Would be Allowed with Proposed Florida Law

Legislation drafted by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis would expand the state’s “Stand Your Ground” law by including a tightly worded definition for looting in its list of forcible felonies, according to a report from the Miami Herald. A burglary within 500 feet of an interruption or impairment of business is the language the reporter allegedly read prior to its release.

Criminal penalties would also increase for those convicted of violence during a disorderly assembly. Blocking traffic during a protest would become a third-degree felony.

Civil unrest that gripped the nation, particularly in Portland, has resulted in some businesses abandoning downtown metropolitan areas. In Chicago, questionable tactics by city officials funneled the violence into the suburbs on at least one occasion.

Criticism for the allegedly forthcoming proposal from Gov. DeSantis was swift. Visit the newspaper’s website for full details.

I’ll keep you updated, but in the meantime, here are some tips to survive if urban unrest comes to visit you.
