Aero Precision—Company History

Aero Precision began as a 2,000-square-foot shop near Tacoma, Wash., in 1994. At first, the small firm specialized in producing parts for the aerospace industry, building a list of customers that included Boeing.

The ability to meet squeaky tight tolerances in volume is an asset in gunmaking though, and the increased demand for modern sporting rifle market was just about to explode. With an eye toward growing the business, the firm put in and won OEM contracts with several major firearm manufacturers.

The business boomed and the company has continued expansion in the calculated fashion you expect from experienced CNC specialists. In 2014, for example, it became the majority owner of Florida-based Ballistic Advantage—a barrel manufacturer established in 2008.

In early 2021 Aero Precision entered into an agreement to move from Tacoma, Wash., to Lakewood, Wash., north of Seattle. The new location is a 268,000-square-foot facility in Lakewood Industrial Park and the move made the company—which has roughly 800 staff members—the city’s largest employer at the time.

“The substantial growth our business has achieved over the past several years has tested the limits of our current facilities,” said Scott Dover, CEO and founder of Aero Precision. “This move will allow a full company consolidation, bringing all Aero Precision operations under one roof. Expanding our footprint is important for the continued growth of our company and will allow us to create efficiencies that will benefit our customers and employees alike.”

Aero Precision currently has locations in Florida, New Hampshire and Washington state. “Over the past 25 years, Aero Precision has established a reputation for providing high quality American Made products that can be trusted in the most rigorous of circumstances,” Dover said during the company’s silver anniversary. “It’s hard to imagine what started as a couple machines in a garage would turn in to the Aero Precision you see today.”
