If you’re looking for a new option for plinking or hunting small game, Minimalist delivers.”

Above Minimalist’s carbon steel action, a Weaver-style base is pre-installed. Make the most of cost-effective rimfire rounds by topping these bolt-actions with a scope or red-dot and the rifle will be ready for the range.

Hatsan’s Versatile Tactical Shotgun Line

Hatsan’s Versatile Tactical Shotgun Line

From Hatsan USA

New for 2020, Hatsan is introducing its Versatile Tactical Shotgun (VTS) line of Escort shotguns. There are both conventional and bullpup configurations to suit all needs. The VTS series utilizes familiar controls and features found on the ever-popular modern sporting rifle. These similarities make transitioning from rifle to shotgun easier than ever before. Capable of firing both 2 3/4 inch and 3 inch shells interchangeably, these shotguns are well-suited for a wide variety of applications.

The Escort DF12 is the premiere VTS series model, with both upper and lower receivers as well as the vented handguard crafted from tough aluminum alloy. It is available in both all-black and FDE Cerakote. It is available exclusively in 12-gauge. A hybrid aluminum/synthetic variant, the SDX, is also available and comes in both 12ga and .410cal. Its advanced polymer lower receiver features alloy guides inside the mag well that maintain its strength and ensure smooth, consistent magazine function. The ThermoDefend forend protects shooters’ hands from the heat generated during extended operation. One of the benefits to the VTS’ gas system is that a bullpup variant can be created that is just as tough and reliable as its counterparts. The BTS bullpup is also available in 12 gauge and .410 bore, and is 9 inches shorter, making it easier to maneuver in tight environments.

The gas operated semi-automatic platform features a new gas piston design that is simpler and more compact than other shotgun systems. The piston floats around the barrel itself, not a secondary tube placed below the barrel. This improves efficiency and decreases the overall size and weight of the gun, making it more user-friendly. The in-line gas system also helps reduce muzzle rise, improving the speed at which follow-up shots can be taken. The standard models feature a buffer tube that houses the recoil spring and provides a mounting location for the shoulder stock.

The VTS series shotguns feature upper and lower receiver assemblies that are easily separable via two quick takedown pins. This provides access for cleaning and maintenance. The handguard is also easy to remove by unscrewing the barrel cover and sliding it off the gun, providing direct access to the gas operating system and making cleaning simple and quick.

Picatinny rails are featured both along the top of the receiver and on the handguard, allowing plenty of mounting options for sights, optics, and accessories. The ergonomic, soft rubber pistol grip is removable from the lower receiver and can be replaced with one of many already-available modular rifle platform grips. The carbine models’ buffer tube mounted stock features an elevation adjustable cheek rest for easy sight alignment and a soft rubber butt pad to absorb recoil. It can be removed and replaced with other commercially available fixed buttstocks to accommodate varying preferences.

The 12-gauge models feature an internally threaded barrel for interchangeable choke tubes. Each gun ships with a cylinder bore choke brake that can be used with both slugs and shot and helps tame recoil. Also included are a standard Full and Improved Cylinder chokes, with other options available. The adaptability of the VTS series ushers in a new era of sporting shotgun – offering a single platform that can perform multiple tasks.

MSRP: Starting at $589.99.

The company also introduced a neat looking model in January, the Escort BTS Bullpup. Of course, that sort of pales by comparison to this.

FalconStrike’s New Junior Size Hydraulic Recoil Pad

FalconStrike’s New Junior Size Hydraulic Recoil Pad

From FalconStrike

Most shooters—especially young shooters—struggle with the effects of recoil, so FalconStrike created a junior recoil pad that utilizes hydraulic dampening technology borrowed from the aerospace industry that dramatically reduces recoil to give junior shooters greater accuracy, less flinching and more shooting endurance.

“During the last decade, High School Clay Target Shooting has surged in numbers to nearly 800 schools and nearly 22,000 student athletes according to the NRA. FalconStrike wants to help junior shooters reduce the effects of recoil to help them enjoy shooting for longer periods of time,” says Martin Gaudet, founder and inventor of FalconStrike Hydraulic Multi-Fit Recoil Pad.

FalconStrike’s hydraulic dampening technology works to match your body shape that contours the shoulder when the gun fires. The elastic bladder contains a high-performance shock absorber for maximum energy reduction, which results in:

• 80% Less Recoil Energy

• 35% Less Muzzle Lift

• 25% Less Peak Force

• 35% Less Rock Back

With FalconStrike, you get enhanced recoil energy reduction through hydraulic dampening without the cost and expense of installing a muzzle brake or the limited results from a rubber-only pad. FalconStrike installs in three easy steps: 1. Select your junior recoil pad, 2. Attach base plate and pad, and 3. Shoot with more comfort and endurance.

FalconStrike comes with a 100% Less Recoil Satisfaction Guarantee.

Hornady Introduces the 6 mm ARC

Hornady Introduces the 6 mm ARC

From Hornady

Hornady is proud to introduce the new 6mm ARC (Advanced Rifle Cartridge). Recently tested, selected and fielded by a specialized group within the U.S. Department of Defense for its multipurpose combat rifle program, the 6 mm ARC is a truly versatile cartridge that maximizes the potential of the AR-15 platform. The consumer offerings will feature bullets selected to deliver ideal performance for hunting, match shooting and personal protection applications.

“The 6 mm ARC began with a simple question: What can we do with today’s technology to maximize the performance of the AR-15 platform?” Hornady Ballistician Jayden Quinlan said. “We subsequently modeled and tested a variety of designs in different calibers until we were able to produce the most flexible cartridge possible within the limits of the AR-15 system.”

This new cartridge delivers less felt recoil than larger short-action-based cartridges, yet takes full advantage of modern, heavy for caliber 6mm bullets that provide excellent accuracy and ballistic performance at extended range.

“The 6 mm ARC does much of what larger cartridges can and everything that smaller cartridges can’t,” Quinlan said.

The 6 mm ARC delivers substantially better ballistics than the 5.56 NATO with similar recoil and yet delivers comparable ballistics to the venerable 308 Winchester with 30% less weight on both weapons system and ammunition.

The 6mm ARC will be available in the following product lines:

CMMG Chambers the 6 mm ARC

CMMG Chambers the 6 mm ARC

From Chevalier Advertising

CMMG has added Hornady’s 6 mm ARC (Advanced Rifle Cartridge) to its Resolute and Endeavor families of rifles. Designed and engineered for accuracy and performance in the versatile AR-15 platform, the 6 mm ARC’s ballistic performance makes it ideal for precision shooting, hunting, military/law enforcement and recreational shooting.

The Hornady 6mm ARC is a short-action cartridge designed to push the limits. Based on the 6.5 Grendel cartridge case, the 6 mm ARC was designed to achieve comparable ballistics to the AR-10 in .308 Win., all while operating in a 30 percentl ighter system.

For shooters and hunters who need to reach further distances, the 6mm ARC will be available in 108-grain ELD Match (match ammo), delivering a muzzle velocity of 2,750 fps and the 103-grain ELD-X (precision hunter ammo) with 2,800 fps. Less felt recoil provides both shooters and hunters the ability to stay on target after making the shot and the potential for quicker follow-up shots with the AR-15.

CMMG Resolute and Endeavo 100, 200 and 300 Series come with a rifle-length gas system on both the 16-inch Resolute barrel and 20-inch Endeavor barrel. This allows for the rifles to have less felt recoil and lower extraction force, reducing wear and tear

Resolute rifles will have a MSRP ranging from $1,049.95 to $1,649.95 (series pending) and the Endeav rifles with a MSRP ranging from $1,049.95 to $1,799.95 (series pending). CMMG 6 mm ARC rifles will be available from CMMG’s website, stocking dealers, qualified retailer stores and their websites.

Both rifles ship with one 10-round detachable box magazine.

Bucket List for Gun Owners

Bucket List for Gun Owners

Benjamin Franklin explained it in letter he penned in 1789. “Our new Constitution is now established, and has an appearance that promises permanency, but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” Most of us survive April 15’s hyperventilation, but there are some things every shooter should consider doing before the Grim Reaper’s unavoidable entry, stage right. Here’s my short bucket list for gun owners.

You may need to down some Dramamine before you mount up for the Aegis Academy Aerial Shooting Experience. There are other companies out there that’ll take you aloft for trigger time from altitude, but ShootingIllustrated.com contributor David Bahde recommended this one heartily. After the aerial familiarization session, he wrote, “Once loaded up, the ride of my life began. The chopper lifted, flew sideways across the parking lot, turned 90 degrees on a dime, tilted forward and flew off. Passes were made with banking turns, flying low to the ground giving a feel for shooting on the move. Unlike the live-fire exercise, we were moving fast, pulling up as you approached the fire tower.”

Why wait for standard -issue angel wings when you have this kind of fun without a nagging toe tag flapping in the breeze?

Found Next to a Pile of Brass

If you, too, believe the Grim Reaper is making a big mistake bringing a sickle to your final gunfight, then Gunsite needs to be on your bucket list. There you’ll learn from the pros how to run that handgun—if you prefer he gets to bad-breath distance before you execute the failure drill—wield that shotgun or drop him at 1,000 meters. It’s a pick-your-poison nirvana for firearm enthusiasts before Valhalla, with an institutional knowledge on armed self-defense that stretches all the way back to 1976.

Savage Arms Renegauge Waterfowl

Savage Arms Renegauge Waterfowl

From Savage Arms

Waterfowl hunters face demanding conditions. Savage Arms has risen to this challenge with their new 12 gauge: Renegauge Waterfowl. This semi-automatic sets a new standard for the fit and function of a hunting shotgun and is finished in Mossy Oak Shadow Grass Blades camo.

“The Renegauge Waterfowl is proof of Savage’s commitment to American sportsmen and women,” Jessica Treglia, Sr. Brand Manager at Savage Arms, said. “We’ve been working on the gun for several years, making sure every aspect worked efficiently and reliably. Wingshooters go through hell to get the perfect shot, and these new Savages will deliver.”

Renegauge Waterfowl has oversized controls that allow shooters to operate the gun efficiently, even with gloved hands. The shotgun has been tested under rigorous real-world hunting conditions and the action will cycle any shells from 3” Magnums to 2 ¾” target rounds. The D.R.I.V. system ensures excess gas vents before it drives the bolt, resulting in consistent ejection, less felt recoil, and a blistering cyclic rate for follow-up shots.

Renegauge Waterfowl’s stock allows for both large and small adjustments to the fit of the gun. The stock has interchangeable recoil pads and cheek risers. It also comes with shims that help fine-tune minute adjustments. There are 20 different ways that Renegauge can be set up, giving each individual shooter complete control over how they interact with the gun. The stock can even be adjusted to accommodate seasonal changes in clothing density.

With the addition of the Mossy Oak Shadow Grass Blades camouflage, Renegauge Waterfowl isn’t easily seen, yet the gun’s exceptional reliability and adaptability make this a clear win for wingshooters.
