Hornady 4DOF Ballistics App Now Communicates with Terrapin X

Hornady 4DOF Ballistics App Now Communicates with Terrapin X

From Hornady

Users of the Hornady 4DOF (4 Degrees of Freedom) Ballistic Calculator App can now obtain trajectory solutions even faster with connectivity to the Terrapin X laser rangefinder.

Hornady 4DOF provides more accurate trajectories than standard ballistic calculators, even at extreme ranges. Trajectory solutions are based on projectile drag coefficient (not ballistic coefficient), along with exact physical modeling of the projectile, its mass and aerodynamic properties.

The app—used successfully by hundreds of thousands of shooters—works even in areas lacking wireless connectivity.

Now Terrapin X users can send range, inclination and azimuth directly to the 4DOF app via Bluetooth—eliminating the need to enter that data by hand. Values are instantly updated within 4DOF, providing accurate and fast ballistic solutions.

“Using the Terrapin X laser rangefinder in conjunction with the 4DOF app allows the user to simply range the target and be provided an instant and accurate shooting solution,” Hornady ballistician Jayden Quinlan said. “Range, inclination and azimuth are important inputs the user can now supply the app in one push of a button.”

More and more companies are going wireless on their weaponlight and scope solutions, too. Here’s my look at the trend.

The Hornady 4DOF Ballistic Calculator App is available free for download from Google Play and the Apple App Store.

Likewise, the new 4DOF connectivity is free to Terrapin X owners by simply updating to the newest firmware version (TerPin 13.01). Detailed instructions are available here.

September NRA Shooting Competitions Canceled Due to Covid-19

From NRA

Due to the circumstances surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic and the many ensuing federal and state safety regulations and mandates, the NRA has made the difficult decision to cancel the NRA World Shooting Championship and the NRA National Police Shooting Championships. Both events were scheduled to be held in mid-September 2020 in West Virginia and Mississippi, respectively.

We share your disappointment that both these competitions that attract participants from across the globe had to be canceled. The NRA wishes everyone good health and the best of luck. Stay safe and healthy.

Savage Rifles in .300 PRC

Savage Rifles in .300 PRC

From Murray Road Agency

When the Department of Defense began looking for a long-range sniper round that produced consistent results with lighter recoil and less muzzle flash, Hornady’s .300 PRC quickly rose to the top. Now Savage has chambered several rifles in the outstanding new caliber that allow hunters and marksmen to make the most of the new round.

“The 300 PRC has opened up new possibilities for extreme long-range shooting,” Jessica Treglia, Sr. Brand Manager at Savage Arms, said. “There’s no better platform for the round than a Savage. With their AccuTriggers and AccuStocks, Savage rifles offer the rugged stability needed for reliable accuracy at any distance.”

While .300 PRC is capable of exceptional accuracy, the round is not simply a paper-puncher. The true potential of the .300 PRC comes from the intentional pairing of heavy .30 caliber bullets with non-belted cases and temperature-stable powders. The .300 PRC’s projectiles achieve repeatable accuracy thanks to their high ballistic coefficients. The 30-degree shoulder of the case provides stable chamber alignment, while the non-belted cases stack efficiently and feed reliably from magazines. The combination allows for fast follow-up shots.

When these attributes are combined with Savage’s thread-in headspacing, floating bolt head, and button rifled barrels, the .300 PRC achieves astounding accuracy. With the stability of AccuStock and the precision of Savage’s AccuTrigger, the round’s potential is fully realized.

Savage builds rifles that enable shooters to make the most of their abilities. Now, with these guns in .300 PRC, competitors can reach new distances, hunters can push the limits of ethical shots—even southpaws will have off-the-shelf options that, once again, demonstrate Savage’s commitment to accessibility for all shooters.

Introduced earlier this year, the new Sector Optics T3 thermal imager and G1T3 System are now available and shipping.

Sector Optics introduced its latest addition to their compact thermal imager and G1 ID 1-8×24 mm Riflescope System range of products earlier this year at SHOT Show. The ultra-compact T3 offers high-quality features commonly found in more expensive thermal imagers. Some of these features include image processing enhancement modes and photo recording. With its real optical zoom of 2-4x, the Sector Optics T3 gives the user a wide-angle view of their surroundings, thus making it the ideal product for hunters. Display modes include white hot, black hot, NV green and color.

The T3 Thermal Imager is extremely versatile. Not only can it be used as a compact handheld thermal imager, it can also be mounted directly to a firearm. Additionally, the T3 can be integrated with the Sector Optics G1 ID 1-8×24 riflescope and its built-in internal display. Blackhawk Introduces New T-Series Red Dot Sight (RDS) Holster

Blackhawk Introduces New T-Series Red Dot Sight (RDS) Holster

From Blackhawk

Blackhawk, a leader in law enforcement and military equipment for more than 20 years, announced today that the company’s popular T-Series line will be expanded to offer new Level 3 Duty Light Bearing holsters compatible with pistol mounted red dot sights. The new T-Series Red Dot Sight (RDS) Holsters are designed for use with the Trijicon RMR/SRO, Leupold Delta Point Pro, SIG Romeo1Pro, and other similar sized optics.

Developed to support law enforcement officers who are authorized to use red dot sights on patrol sidearms, the T-Series RDS Holsters provide maximum protection for both the firearm and optic. The dual-injected molded holster provides proven durability for the sidearm while an additional removable rotating dust cover further protects the optic from impacts and debris. This combination of features provides users with a sleek, ergonomic design without adding extra bulk to the holster.

The T-Series RDS Holster will initially be available in a right handed, light-bearing Level 3 Duty (L3D) model for the Glock 17.  Additional models will soon be available including both Level 2 Duty (L2D) and L3D in left and right-hand configurations for the Glock 17 and SIG SAUER P320 pistols. The holsters can be used with the Streamlight TLR-1 and TLR-2 pistol lights.

“As more law enforcement agencies authorize the use of red dot sights on patrol sidearms, the need for a duty rated holster that can accommodate these optics has never been greater,” said Evan McNamara, Director of Product Development for Blackhawk. “With its streamlined thumb-activation retention, the T-Series RDS Holsters keep your firearm and rear optic at the ready while maintaining total security.”

The Blackhawk T-Series line is the world’s first thumb driven, dual-injected molded holster. The holster combines the company’s proven outer body strength made possible with a glass reinforced nylon along with a soft touch inner layer that is both super slick and sound-dampening. This durable and efficient, low-friction design translates into a smooth, quiet draw or when re-holstering the sidearm. Designed to follow Blackhawk’s Master Grip Principle, all T-Series holsters have been specifically developed to allow the user’s hand to land naturally where it should in order to deploy the sidearm.

Helix 6 Precision Delivers a Pre-fit Upgrade for the Ruger Precision Rifle

Helix 6 Precision Delivers a Pre-fit Upgrade for the Ruger Precision Rifle

From Source Outdoor Group

The Ruger Precision Rifle (RPR) is a match-ready bolt-action rifle system designed for long-range tactical shooters. Thanks to its modular design, upgrading parts and accessories are quick and easy. The RPR uses Ruger’s barrel nut system, so upgrading to a Helix 6 Precision Carbon Fiber Barrel is simple and doesn’t require a lathe for installation. A carbon fiber barrel by Helix 6 Precision enhances accuracy while reducing the rifle’s overall weight-a smart option for boosting rifle handling and performance. Using proprietary carbon-fiber technology, Helix 6 Precision builds the world’s ultimate barrels for the Ruger Precision Rifle in three popular long-range calibers.

Helix 6 Precision’s Ruger Precision Rifle barrels use a match-grade 416R stainless steel core wrapped using a proprietary layup of carbon fiber. The barrel is threaded to fit Ruger action threads. Thanks to unique design attributes, Helix 6 barrels can be cut and rethreaded to the user’s preferred specs by a qualified gunsmith. Its design dampens barrel harmonics for outstanding accuracy. Button rifling and hand lapping each barrel improve accuracy while minimizing fouling.

Helix 6 Precision manufactures carbon fiber barrels in three popular long-range calibers-6mm Creedmoor, 6.5 Creedmoor and .308 Winchester-for the Ruger Precision Rifle. The 6mm and 6.5 Creedmoor feature a 24-inch barrel with a fast 1-8 twist, needed to stabilize sleek high BC bullets, and the .308 Win barrel uses a 1-10 twist for optimum long-range performance. All barrels have a .980-inch diameter straight bull contour and weigh between 2.56- and 2.75-pounds depending on the cartridge! Barrels include industry-standard 5/8-24 threads for the rapid installation of an aftermarket muzzle brake or suppressor.

Installing a Helix 6 Precision carbon fiber barrel on your Ruger Precision Rifle is simple. All that’s needed is a barrel nut wrench and the cartridge-specific headspace gauges. However, they recommend the services of a gunsmith if you do not have the tools or the skills to install and headspace your new Helix 6 Precision barrel properly.

Helix 6 Precision uses only premium materials and cutting-edge manufacturing technology to create the world’s ultimate carbon fiber barrel. Available now as pre-fit barrels for the Ruger Precision Rifle, it is easy to upgrade to a proudly made in the USA, Helix 6 Precision barrel.

And you can get barrel blanks from the company.

Galco Expands Line of Holster Belts

Galco Expands Line of Holster Belts

From Galco

A sturdy belt, designed to bear the weight of a handgun and EDC accessories, is the foundation of a comfortable all-day carry system. Galco offers a wide variety of holster belts that work with every type of attire, from business suits to casual wear, in both leather and nylon.

Galco’s dress belts are suitable for wear with more formal clothing like suits or a blazer and dress pants. They feature solid-brass rectangular buckles and step-skived, feather-edge construction and are visually indistinguishable from fashion dress belts, yet will support the weight of a defensive handgun all day long. They’re also narrow enough to fit in the belt loops of most suit and dress pants. Examples include the SB1 and SB3.

Casual holster belts can come in leather or nylon. These are more suited for wearing with jeans, most chinos, and other informal clothing. Leather casual belts, like the SB2SB5 and SB6, have a rounded solid-brass buckle for a relaxed look. Nylon belts feature a variety of buckles, from Instructors style to modern Cobra and EDC designs, and are made from SCUBA or Type 13 nylon.

Galco also offers belts suitable for inside the waistband (IWB) carry. These aren’t as rigid as holster belts suited for OWB carry, but they don’t need to be. Much of the support for an IWB holster comes from belt pressure pushing the handgun against the body, obviating the need for an extremely rigid belt. IWB belts include the SB14 and SB18.

No matter how you dress, or how you prefer to carry on your waistline, Galco belts will help you create a solid foundation for your daily carry system. See our complete line in the Belts section of our website!

CCI’s Newest Clean-22 Option is Optimized for Suppressed Firearms and Packed in Convenient Cartons

CCI’s Newest Clean-22 Option is Optimized for Suppressed Firearms and Packed in Convenient Cartons

From CCI

CCI Ammunition is proud to announce new Clean-22 Suppressor .22 LR rounds, packaged in CCI’s new easy-to-pour, bulk-pack cartons. Shipments of this new product have begun to arrive at dealers.

This new ammunition uses an advanced polymer bullet coating to reduce lead fouling inside a suppressor by up to 60 percent. The exclusive feature allows much easier suppressor cleaning and maintenance, as well as excellent accuracy. With dependable CCI priming and consistent propellant, the loads cycle reliably through any suppressed firearm.

“Clean-22 ammunition provides an advantage because its polymer coating replaces the wax that is traditionally applied to .22 LR ammunition,” said CCI Rimfire Product Manager Dan Compton. “The goal of traditional wax is to protect the barrel of the gun from buildup of lead or copper created as bullets pass through it. But this wax does not totally encapsulate the bullet, so metal and wax deposits eventually build up and the gun needs to be cleaned. However, because the Clean-22 polymer coating completely encapsulates the bullet, it does a better job protecting the barrel from dirt and buildup than wax. The cleaner results are quite impressive.”

Features
• Black polymer bullet coating reduces lead fouling in suppressors up to 60 percent
• Ballistically optimized 40-grain lead round nose bullet
• Reliable function in semi-automatic firearms
• Extremely reliable CCI priming and brass case
