Ruger Reports Q1 2021 Earnings

From Ruger

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) announced that for the first quarter of 2021 the Company reported net sales of $184.4 million and diluted earnings of $2.16 per share, compared with net sales of $123.6 million and diluted earnings of 87¢ per share in the first quarter of 2020.

The Company also announced today that its Board of Directors declared a dividend of 86¢ per share for the first quarter for stockholders of record as of May 17, 2021, payable on May 28, 2021. This dividend varies every quarter because the Company pays a percentage of earnings rather than a fixed amount per share. This dividend is approximately 40% of net income.

Chief Executive Officer Christopher J. Killoy commented on the financial results for the first quarter of 2021, “Strengthening our workforce and realizing operational efficiencies resulted in an outstanding quarter. I could not be more proud of how well our folks rose to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and capitalized on the opportunities presented by the historic surge in demand during the past year. But we did not allow the frenetic pace of our business to distract us from our long-term goal of driving shareholder value. Our focus on our new product development initiatives remained steadfast. Consequently, in March we introduced the Ruger Max-9, a versatile 9mm pistol that has been met with tremendous excitement. We look forward to additional exciting product launches in 2021, including the return of Marlin lever action rifles, which we plan to begin shipping in the fourth quarter.”

Mr. Killoy made the following observations related to the Company’s first quarter 2021 performance:

  • The estimated unit sell-through of the Company’s products from the independent distributors to retailers increased 9% in the first quarter of 2021 compared to the prior year period. For the same period, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (“NICS”) background checks (as adjusted by the National Shooting Sports Foundation) increased 13%. This growth is attributable to increased consumer demand for firearms in the first quarter of 2021 and has likely been constrained due to limited available inventory in the distribution channel.
  • Sales of new products, including the Wrangler, the Ruger-57, the LCP II in .22 LR, the PC Charger, and the Max-9 pistol, represented $34.8 million or 21% of firearm sales in the first quarter of 2021. New product sales include only major new products that were introduced in the past two years.
  • During the first quarter of 2021, the Company’s finished goods inventory and distributor inventories of the Company’s products increased slightly. However, in the aggregate, total Company and distributor inventories decreased 153,000 units from the end of the first quarter of 2020.
  • Cash provided by operations during the first quarter of 2021 was $27.8 million. At April 3, 2021, our cash and short-term investments totaled $146.1 million. Our current ratio is 3.5 to 1 and we have no debt.
  • In the first quarter of 2021, capital expenditures totaled $5.5 million. We expect our 2021 capital expenditures to total approximately $20 million, most of which relate to new product introductions.
  • In the first quarter of 2021, the Company returned $12.5 million to its shareholders through the payment of dividends.
  • At April 3, 2021, stockholders’ equity was $288.5 million, which equates to a book value of $16.41 per share, of which $8.31 per share was cash and short-term investments.

Bushnell Expands Rimfire Riflescope Lineup

Bushnell Expands Rimfire Riflescope Lineup

From Bushnell

Bushnell®, an industry leader in performance optics, has announced the addition of two new models to its dedicated lineup of rimfire riflescopes. Specifically designed for .22LR rifles, these scopes are ideal for varmint and small game hunting, as well as for plinking and recreational shooting.

The two new riflescopes are available in a 3-9x40mm configuration with DZ22 reticles, with one model featuring an illuminated reticle option. The DZ22 reticle was specifically designed for .22LR rimfire ballistics, with drop points out to 125 yards. On the illuminated reticle model, the riflescope is standard with an “off” position between each intensity setting, so users do not have to return to zero and lose their preferred intensity. The illuminated reticle also provides shooters with improved visibility in low light environments.

Rimfire shooters will appreciate that both models come equipped with glass enhancements for improved performance. Standard features on both riflescopes include multi-coated surfaces, one-piece tube design and a large 40mm objective for more clarity, improved resolution and a larger exit pupil. Both riflescopes can also be used with the Bushnell Ballistic App. These enhancements allow for faster target acquisition and more accurate shooting.

Capped turrets protect shooters’ windage and elevation settings in the field, while lightweight and waterproof sealed aircraft-grade aluminum construction protects the entire scope from the elements. From the field to the range, the 3-9×40 rimfire riflescopes are IPX7 rated and have been designed to get the most out of rimfire rifle shooting no matter the weather conditions.

MSRP is $149.95 for the 3-9×40 rimfire riflescope with standard DZ22 reticle and $179.95 for the illuminated DZ22 reticle model. For more information about these or other Bushnell products, visit Bushnell.com.

Beretta USA Launches Line of Manurhin Revolvers

Beretta USA Launches Line of Manurhin Revolvers

From Beretta USA

Beretta USA is excited to announce the inclusion of Manurhin revolvers into our commercial product line-up. The official launch of this new line will took place at the 2021 USPSA LOCAP Nationals in Talladega, AL.

The French company Chapuis Armes, a world leader in hunting firearms, has manufactured, produced, and distributed the legendary Manurhin revolvers for nearly 20 years. These storied firearms benefit from the expertise and craftsmanship of Chapuis Armes’ gunsmiths for quality and finish. The full range of Manurhin revolvers fulfills the needs of target shooters and law enforcement officers worldwide.

The Manurhin MR73 series of revolvers were explicitly developed for the requirements of the French Gendarmerie and special service units of the French Police and Military. The pistols feature exceptional accuracy and proven reliability, tested with tens of thousands of rounds of full power .357 Mag ammunition during durability testing.

“Beretta is proud to have the opportunity to bring the best revolver in the world to the US market in cooperation with our sister company, Chapuis Armes – the parent company of Manurhin. These products are in keeping with our philosophy of producing the best offerings on the market, and we are excited to enter into the revolver market with such a storied brand and the renowned MR73 series specifically,” Erik Stern, Tactical and Pro-Shop Product Manager, said.

The MR73 Gendarmerie 4” and MR73 Sport 5.25” will be the first Manurhin products that Beretta will import and include into the current premium product line-up. The accurate and durable MR73 series features cold hammer-forged barrels, target adjustable sights, an ergonomic target grip for enhanced recoil mitigation, and a premium target trigger that is adjustable for overtravel.

The cold hammer-forged barrel allows for enhanced durability and world-class accuracy. Cold hammer-forging processes provide the highest level of repeatability and consistency possible in the industry and are standard for Manurhin revolvers.

The LPA target adjustable rear sight allows the shooter to make macro and micro-adjustments for wind and elevation as necessary, making any adjustments needed for longer range shooting a snap.

The MR series of revolvers ships with a highly ergonomic target grip created by the legendary Jacques Trausch. These grips are known for extreme recoil mitigation (especially with full-house .357 Magnum loads) and high levels of shooter control and allow for increased accuracy, faster follow-up shots, and limit recoil transfer to the shooter’s hands.

All Manurhin MR73 series revolvers feature a triple adjustable trigger with an overtravel screw built into the trigger as well as a hammer force adjustment screw and a hammer spring weight adjustment screw built into the frame. This high level of adjustability allows for the shooter to dial in the trigger to the precise specifications needed for maximum control over the shot.

Umarex Airguns Gauntlet 2 PCP Air Rifle

Umarex Airguns Gauntlet 2 PCP Air Rifle

From Umarex

Umarex USA, innovator, manufacturer, and marketer of airguns, optics, and accessories for outdoor enthusiasts is pleased to announce it is running the Gauntlet again! The Gauntlet 2 pre-charged pneumatic (PCP) is all new for 2021. Umarex Airguns is bringing substantial improvements over the first generation Gauntlet and its direct competitors. The new Gauntlet 2 will be available in both .22 and .25 calibers and bring a refined look and a new performance potential to shooters looking for an alternative to rimfire rifles or the discerning air gun shooter in aim of the 10-ring.

Ergonomics mean everything when it comes to handling any tool and air rifles are no different. The new Umarex Gauntlet 2 stock has been optimized with esthetic design changes as well as functional improvements that captivate the eyes and meld with the body. Its new high-strength polymer stock is molded in Flat Dark Earth with the adjustable cheek rest accented in black. The stock has been slimmed down and trimmed in conspicuous places while still offering superb interaction, reduced weight, and synonymous feel for the shooter. This new approach accommodates M-LOK® accessories via the attachment points on three sides of the reinforced and lengthened forearm. Additionally, the new Gauntlet 2 is fitted with an easy-to-grip knurled cylindrical bolt handle that treats the shooter to a much more positive interface, especially in inclement weather.

Umarex Airguns raised the bar with improved performance in this new edition to their PCP lineup. The Gauntlet 2’s new onboard air tank has been increased to 24 cubic inches from the first generation’s 13 cubic inch tank. The biggest news for the Gauntlet 2, however, is the increased regulated pressure. Shooters picking up the .22 caliber Gauntlet 2 will find the regulated shot pressure at 1,900 PSI and the .25 caliber Gauntlet 2 tank regulated at 2,100 PSI. Velocities for .22 and .25 caliber pellets will hover in the 1050 FPS and 980 FPS range using lightweight lead pellets and energy levels in the 33 FPE and 51 FPE range with popular standard weight pellets, respectively. The huge 24 cubic inch tank also works to increase the shot count by 17% in .22 caliber to 70+ shots and 85% in .25 caliber to 50+ shots. Even though the Gauntlet 2 is producing substantially more muzzle energy than the original Gauntlet, additional baffling in the barrel assembly works to reduce the noise level by 8dB in both calibers. Mounting a scope on the new Gauntlet 2 is also easier than ever with a Picatinny style optics rail now topping off the receiver.

Umarex USA has run the Gauntlet again by refining the lauded Gauntlet platform to create a powerful and pleasing PCP pellet rifle that, in typical Umarex Airgun fashion, offers exceptional power and exceptional value for the consumer’s shooting dollars. The Gauntlet 2 will be offered at fine airgun retailers and the Umarex USA webstore at a MSRP of $449.99.

True Velocity ‘Next Gen’ 6.8 TVCM Cartridge Benefits Current Weapons

True Velocity ‘Next Gen’ 6.8 TVCM Cartridge Benefits Current Weapons

From True Velocity

Texas-based ammunition manufacturer True Velocity released a video today detailing the performance advantages of its proprietary 6.8 TVCM composite-cased cartridge currently being evaluated by the U.S. Army in its Next Generation Squad Weapons (NGSW) program.

Though True Velocity’s 6.8 TVCM case design was originally optimized for use in the NGSW-Rifle and NGSW-Automatic Rifle submissions designed by General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, the video demonstrates the cartridge’s additional compatibility with currently fielded weapons including the M240B belt-fed machine gun, the M110 semi-automatic sniper system, and the M134 rotary machine gun, or “minigun.” The company refers to this added 6.8 TVCM functionality as its “switch-barrel” capability.

Watch the full video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bL1wF-nCGc4

“True Velocity is an American-owned, American-based company that set out with a singular goal in mind, and it was to provide the American warfighter with an unfair advantage on the battlefield,” said Patrick Hogan, True Velocity’s chief sales and marketing officer. “The Next Generation Squad Weapon program has given us the opportunity to do that … Not only do we have this forward-leaning momentum with next-generation capabilities, but we have a plug-and-play application that can be fielded on the battlefield today with weapons that our soldiers are carrying into battle.”

True Velocity’s composite-cased 6.8 TVCM cartridge delivers significant performance and logistical benefits over traditional brass-cased ammunition and currently meets or exceeds all requirements of the NGSW program. The 6.8 TVCM cartridge provides significantly increased muzzle velocity and effective range over the traditional brass-cased 7.62x51mm round, while simultaneously reducing the weight of the cartridge by more than 30 percent and keeping chamber pressures at normal, safe operating levels, a factor that allows for compatibility with currently fielded weapon systems like the M240B.

“You’re talking about something as simple as pulling a barrel off the M240 and replacing it with one that accommodates 6.8 TVCM,” said Hogan, “and, all of a sudden, you’ve increased the effective range of this weapon by more than 50 percent, you’ve reduced the weight of the ammunition by over 30 percent, and you’ve given our soldiers a meaningful advantage on the battlefield.”

The U.S. Army down-selected True Velocity’s composite-cased ammunition in August 2019 for the NGSW modernization program. True Velocity submitted its 6.8mm composite-cased cartridge as part of an overall NGSW weapon system in partnership with General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems.
