Cobalt Kinetics

Cobalt Kinetics produces AR-15s in a variety of chamberings and its line of precision-engineered firearms has earned a sterling reputation for winning matches and unfailing performance. The Utah-based company also offers an American Masterpiece series from its custom shop, making guns with the looks and finish guaranteed to appeal to the most discerning enthusiast.

The company launched in Washington, UT, in 2014. When its ARs started making regular appearances on podiums in competitions, word of the quality and reliability spread. Volume never approached those of larger and well-known firms, but business grew steadily from 2015 to 2019.

The vast majority of enthusiasts, however, didn’t even know it existed until late 2019. That’s when Cobalt Kinetics and MARS Inc. unveiled their joint submission for the U.S. Military to consider during its search for the Next Generation Squad Automatic Weapon System. SIG Sauer came out the winner in that match, but the announcement’s publicity planted Cobalt Kinetics firmly in front of many shooters otherwise unfamiliar with the brand.

A year later BAQ Defense, headquartered in neighboring St. George, UT, acquired Cobalt Kinetics. BAQ President Aaron Quinn said at the time that his company had been interested in Cobalt Kinetics and its products for while. “Their level of innovation and pure artistry is unprecedented,” he said.  “We want to continue their gold standard of excellence by developing additional firearms that meet every demand in the market.”

Today Cobalt Kinetics offers a CK-Pro lineup with AR-15s chambered in 5.56 NATO and .300 Blackout. Carbines, pistol versions and SBRs are available, in barrel lengths that vary from 7.5 inches to 16.

The firm’s CK-SPR models include 6 mm ARC, 6.5 Grendel and .223 Wylde chamberings. The ARs wear barrels the vary in length from 22 inches to 12.5.

And the company continues to offer its fine American Masterpieces. Each is built by the custom shop, one at a time, to specifications prescribed by the new owner, including chambering, configuration, accessories and finish.
