Winchester and Browning just released the 6.8 Western cartridge and I’ve compiled ballistic charts that show the 6.8 Western ballistics versus 7 mm Rem. Mag. and .308 Win. Figures are provided by Winchester, using its loads exclusively to give a good, apples-to-apples comparison.

Zero is at 200 yards. By sticking with single company data, barrel lengths should be identical.

The new Winchester 6.8 Western loads shown in the charts include a 165-grain AccuBond, 170-grain Silvertip and 170-grain MatchKing. For 7 mm Rem. Mag. the information is for a 175-grain Power-Point bullet and in .308 Win. it’s the 168-grain Ballistic Silvertip load.

  2. So why did you use a 168 grain match king 7mm rem mag bullet instead on a 175 grain power point that has a horrible bc? It would have gave everyone a better perspective of what the round is capable of.

  3. this is to sell the 6.8 western not the 7mm rem mag i would like to see a better comparison thinking of getting the 6.8

    1. I apologize. I’m a writer/photog in the gun industry….so not trying to sell anything, just trying to get the news out. However, you’re correct, I need to rework for a better comparison. Keep your fingers crossed and if I meet today’s deadline I might be able to get on a better chart this week (hopefully tonight or early tomorrow). And thank you for stopping by my modest blog.       1. Hi Guy, why not put the 7mm mag with Hornady 175 gr eldx on the chart. With that bullet a 7mm mag only 31.7 drops at 500, and 237 at 1000 yds which would have been the best in test. While the new 6.8 round drops 292 at 1k, with the similar 175 tipped sierra game king. It is hard to see where this new cartridge has any advantage over the 7mm mag.

  4. Sorry, ill just stay with my .300 win mag , i reload my own using a 150 gr. Nosler ballistic tip, it hits hard and for the most part drops them in there tracks, lung shots doesnt waste meat

  5. I feel that the 6.8 Western is the perfect in between cartridge
    I’ve got the old .243w 30-30w .308w 6.5 Creedmoor and a .300 Weatherby Magnum I think the 6.8 Western would fit right in between the 6.5 Creedmoor & 300 Weatherby Mag
    All these other modern 300 mags have a long way to go to catch up with the 75 year old angry Roy 300 Weatherby Mag
