TrueTimber Joins Bass Pro Shops, Black Rifle Coffee in Extending Sponsorship with JR Motorsports

From TrueTimber

TrueTimber has extended the partnership with JR Motorsports on Noah Gragson’s No. 9 car as the NASCAR Xfinity Series enters the back half of the 2020 season. JRM announced that Bass Pro ShopsTrueTimber and Black Rifle Coffee will stay on as co-primary sponsors for an additional 16 races as Gragson chases the NXS Championship. The partnership trio were on board at the beginning of the 2020 season for Gragson’s season-opening win at Daytona.

“This has been very exciting news and we love seeing the TrueTimber logo and pattern on Noah’s car,” said TrueTimber CEO Rusty Sellars. “Noah has shown a ton of talent and brings a lot of energy to the track every week. We have worked closely with JRM for some time now and are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue our involvement with the team. Our friends at Bass Pro Shops and Black Rifle Coffee have been great partners and we look forward to seeing what the future holds with this extension.”

This season marks 22-year-old Gragson’s second year with JR Motorsports where he has been gaining a lot of traction against the rest of the field. Gragson currently sits third in the Xfinity Series season standings with two wins, eight top-five and 11 top-10 finishes this year.

“I was able to spend time with Rusty [Sellers] and his entire group at TrueTimber before this pandemic hit and I can’t thank them enough for allowing me to represent their brand throughout the 2020 season. What they have been able to do with their company is amazing and that time spent with them learning about TrueTimber and their company is something I will never forget. To represent Johnny [Morris], Rusty [Sellers], Evan [Hafer] and Mat [Best] along with their three brands is something I am thankful for and hopefully I continue to do them proud this year,” said Gragson. “Hopefully we can continue our strong run together and celebrate at the end of the year with the Xfinity Series Championship trophy.”

Fans can also see TrueTimber patterns, logos and artwork in eNASCAR Coca Cola iRacing on Brad Davies No. 88 JR Motorsports car. Davies currently sits 12th in season points with five races remaining before playoffs. And don’t forget that select Winchester firearms are now available in TrueTimber

True Velocity Delivers ‘Next Gen’ 6.8 mm Ammunition to U.S. Army

From True Velocity

True Velocity officials confirmed recently that the Texas-based technology company delivered more than 170,000 rounds of its 6.8mm TVCM lightweight ammunition to the U.S. Army in May as part of the Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) program.

“As a team, True Velocity is excited and proud to have delivered this significant order of next-generation ammunition to the Army in-full and on-time,” said True Velocity President Chris Tedford. “Our 6.8 TVCM composite-cased cartridge is capable of unprecedented ballistic performance, while simultaneously exceeding the Army’s expectations in terms of weight reduction.”

The U.S. Army down-selected True Velocity’s composite-cased ammunition in August 2019 for the NGSW modernization program. True Velocity submitted its 6.8mm composite-cased cartridge as part of an overall NGSW weapon system in partnership with General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems and firearm manufacturer Beretta.

True Velocity’s proprietary composite 6.8mm case design provides end users with significant logistical and operational advantages over metal-hybrid cases and traditional brass cases, including substantially increased effective range and muzzle energy, drastic reduction in cartridge weight and enhanced accuracy, regardless of weapon platform.

“True Velocity’s ammunition – and particularly our 6.8 TVCM cartridge – are changing the paradigm,” Tedford said. “It turns out you don’t have to operate at unsafe chamber pressures in order to generate increased velocity, enhanced terminal performance and improved accuracy. Our cartridge achieves all of these things, while maintaining safe operating pressures and drastically reducing the overall cartridge weight.”

The NGSW program is designed to provide the U.S. Army’s Close Combat Force with an enhanced 6.8mm cartridge replacement for the currently fielded 5.56x45mm round, as well as to replace the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon and the M4A1 with next-generation weapons.

Prep Before Storms Arrive this Summer Advises NOAA

From NOAA

This hurricane season is predicted to be a very active one. NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center is forecasting 13-19 named storms, 6-10 hurricanes and 3-6 major hurricanes. Please take this time to review your hurricane preparedness and evaluate your Critical Incident Disaster Plan, including a plan for what you and your family will do in the event you need to evacuate due to a natural disaster.

Here are a few things you can do right now to prepare:

  1. Know the hazards that are present in your area.
  2. Review your insurance policies and confirm you have adequate coverage against each type of disaster you are vulnerable to.
  3. Take a household and animal inventory and store copies in a safe location or online. Cataloging your belongings with a home inventory might sound tedious, but how easy would it be for you to recall all the contents of your home if you lost everything? Taking a home inventory can save you time and headaches when filing a claim following a disaster.
  4. Prepare a disaster plan. Your plan should start with having somewhere safe to go. Think of someone who could house you, your family and your wildlife. Talk to them about what might happen in the event of a disaster. Then talk to everyone who lives in your home about what to do if there is an emergency and you are unable to return in a timely manner.
  5. Have a communications plan. Consider that your family may not be together if a disaster strikes. How you will get to a safe place? How will you contact one another? How will you get back together? You will be better prepared to safely reunite your family and loved ones during an emergency if you think ahead and communicate with others in advance. Your family should have a list of emergency contact numbers they can phone.
  6. Have an evacuation plan. In some cases when you need to evacuate, there may not be a lot of time. Plan how to evacuate your home quickly and make sure everyone knows the evacuation plan.
  7. Supplies. In the event of a natural disaster please ensure that you have enough supplies to cover both your family’s needs as well as those of your wildlife.
  8. Practice the steps that are needed to disconnect your home’s gas, water, and electricity. Test your generators to ensure they are operational and have backup supplies.
  9. Before any disaster, you should inspect your home/facility and eliminate any potential hazards. In an emergency, ordinary items in your home can cause injury and damage. Anything that can move, fall, break, or cause a fire is a potential hazard.
  10. Community connections are important. Make sure you know your neighbors. Exchange phone numbers and keep an eye on elderly or disabled neighbors, or people with children – they might need extra help during a natural disaster. Have your Captive Wildlife Investigator’s phone number in the event of an escape or damage to your facility.

We encourage you to review your Critical Incident Disaster Plan. These plans ensure that you are proactive in preparing for any emergency event that could potentially disrupt the orderly operation of your facility and thus, adversely impact public safety.

Disasters happen, and the experts have some sound advice on how to prepare

The 2020 NASGW Expo Canceled

From NASGW

The National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers’ Board of Directors voted unanimously to cancel the 2020 NASGW Expo that was scheduled for October in Grapevine, Texas.

NASGW leadership has been monitoring the mounting cases of COVID-19 in Texas and the expanding travel restrictions throughout the country. Despite extensive planning and precautions taken to limit risk, the health and safety of our members and the shooting sports industry is the top priority.

“As cases have continued to increase and travel restrictions are starting to expand, this decision is best for the health and safety of our members,” said Laurie Aronson, NASGW Chairwoman. “We need to protect our industry right now, and unfortunately that means canceling the NASGW Expo.”

NASGW is currently working with the hotel, convention center, and vendors regarding the cancellation. Resources for members and exhibitors will be available in the near future. NASGW is looking forward to the 2021 Expo on October 27-29 in Columbus, Ohio.

“For many in our industry, the NASGW Expo is their most productive event because it is very business focused,” said Kenyon Gleason, NASGW President. “Unfortunately, bringing people together in 2020 is not the best thing for our association, our industry, or our country. This was a very difficult decision, but one that ultimately proved the most responsible course of action.”

Gun Sales Continue to Boom

From Small Arms Analytics & Forecasting

Small Arms Analytics & Forecasting (SAAF) estimates July 2020 U.S. firearms unit sales at 2.0 million units, a year-over-year increase of 134.6% from July 2019. Likely single handgun sales (1.2 million) increased year-over-year by 152.0% whereas single long-gun sales (0.6 million) increased year-over-year by 108.2%. All other likely background check-related sales (0.16 million) increased year-over-year by 125.3%. This includes so-called “multiple” sales where the exact split between handguns and long-guns cannot be determined from the data record.

Detailed data are available for purchase at https://SmallArmsAnalytics.com/shop/.

SAAF’s firearms unit sales estimates are based on raw data taken from the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), adjusted for checks unlikely to be related to end-user firearms sales. For example, the FBI’s raw numbers (for July, some 3,614,192) cannot be taken at face value as large numbers of background checks are unrelated to end-user sales. As a case in point, in July the state of Kentucky conducted about 260,000 so-called permit checks and rechecks alone whereas end-user unit sales at firearms retailers likely amounted to about 37,000. SAAF makes certain other adjustments to the data based on retailer reports and other information; nonetheless, the estimates still likely understate the true number of sales.

SAAF Chief Economist Jurgen Brauer comments that “…the firearms market continues at its far accelerated pace. Our estimates suggest that the market for the first seven months of 2020 now has nearly matched that of the entire year of 2019.”

Concealed Carry Positioning with Galco

From Galco

Holster choice, and particularly the exact positioning on the body, is intensely personal. What’s comfortable, fast and concealable for one gun carrier may not work at all for another. That’s why Galco offers holsters for just about every position on the body, and even includes a helpful “body clock” diagram on most package labels and website product details.

Carry at the appendix position, roughly 12 o’clock to 2 o’clock for a right-handed shooter, has rapidly increased in popularity over the last decade. Galco has, of course, kept up with the trend and makes multiple holsters suitable for this carry method. The newest of these is the Paragon™ Kydex IWB, which is optimized for appendix carry. But many other Galco holsters are suitable for this position, including the new QuickTuk Cloud™Scout 3.0™Stow-N-Go™Triton™ 2.0 and Tuck-N-Go™ 2.0 IWBs. For those who prefer OWB holsters, the Hornet™ is designed to be perfect for both appendix and crossdraw carry.

Carrying a handgun on the point of the strong hip, at about 3 o’clock, has been a popular choice for many years. Holsters with vertical angle (or neutral cant) are best suited for this method, and Galco has it covered with holsters like the Avenger™BlakGuard™Halo™Quick Slide™TacSlide™ and Yaqui Slide. The vertically-oriented IWBs suitable for appendix carry are also very useful in this position.

None of these guidelines are written in stone, of course, and once again it comes back to the personal preferences of the shooter. Some gun carriers will, for example, place an Avenger in front of their hip and be perfectly happy with it. If that works most comfortably and efficiently with their body type, Galco fully supports them!

Finally, many Galco holsters can be adjusted for angle, from crossdraw to vertical to strongside, at the user’s discretion. This makes them the most versatile of all.

Here’s Part II of the series from Galco.

White House Celebrates National Shooting Sports Month

From NSSF

NSSF, the trade association for the firearm industry, is proud to share the Presidential Message on National Shooting Sports Month® 2020, in which President Donald Trump commemorates “…our Constitutional right to bear arms by celebrating America’s cherished past time of recreational and competitive shooting sports.” National Shooting Sports Month was developed by NSSF to celebrate, share and invite newcomers and grow participation in the shooting sports.

The Presidential Message recognizes America’s “rich history of fostering responsible gun ownership.” President Trump notes in his message the shooting sports’ history of community events early in the nation’s growth, bringing communities and families together. Those competitions grew and gave rise to 19th century sharpshooters, including Pawnee Bill and Annie Oakley celebrating shooting skills and a national pioneering character.

The White House message, issued during a time of record-setting firearm sales, encourages Americans to participate in the shooting sports, practice safe firearm storage and handling and seek proper instruction. President Trump reiterated his commitment to preserving and safeguarding America’s Second Amendment rights and individual liberties.

“Since my first day in office, I have made clear that my Administration will always protect and defend the Second Amendment,” President Trump wrote in his message. “We will continue to oppose those individuals and policies that attempt to tread on this essential and cherished liberty.”

The President also encouraged all Americans to share their valued shooting sports traditions with others.

“NSSF is honored President Trump recognizes and celebrates the shooting sports with all law-abiding Americans,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and Chief Executive Officer. “The firearm industry is proud of the safe and responsible example of today’s gun owners who participate in these cherished traditions and the vital role they play in teaching and reinforcing the safe and responsible ownership of firearms.”

The entire Presidential Message on National Shooting Sports Month 2020 can be found here.

NSSF is also offering a free e-booklet as a resource for safe activities during National Shooting Sports month, which is August. Here’s a link for more info.

Armscor Pledges Ongoing Mental Health Awareness Support

From Armscor

Armscor International, Inc. has partnered with Walk the Talk America to provide funding for mental health awareness in the form of a $2,500 ongoing monthly donation.

“We are humbled by this gesture from Armscor,” Mike Sodini, WTTA’s founder, said Friday. “We have slowly and incrementally been gaining support from across the gun community and to have this ongoing contribution really means a lot.”

“WTTA’s mission statement is something Armscor/Rock Island Armory believed in from the start and look to continually support WTTA further in years to come. We look forward to working with other manufacturer’s in the coming months and years as we are stronger as a group than individually on mental health and firearms,” Armscor CFO Dustin Jones said.

Walk the Talk America’s mission is to bring the communities of firearms and mental health closer in order to prevent suicide and improve mental wellness within the gun community while also increasing firearms cultural competence among mental health practitioners. The efforts span gun ranges, retail stores, law enforcement, military veterans, and many more demographics.

Armscor, originally founded in 1905 in the Philippines, entered the United States market in 1985 and operates a manufacturing plant in Pahrump, NV, just 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas. Armscor owns the Rock Island Armory brand, known for its 1911 model pistol, and produces approximately 110 million rounds of ammunition annually.

Sodini expressed further gratitude and optimism, “We have come a long way in the two years we’ve been around and doing what we have with very limited funding,” he said. “My sincere belief is that other big industry manufacturers and dealers will see Armscor’s commitment and want to help too.”

“Preventing suicide within the firearm community is something everyone should be able to get behind and I am excited to see what we can do in the coming months and years,” he said.

Walk the Talk America is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
